CONVERSATIONS FOR A CURIOUS MIND…

My name is Alex Picca. I’m a business owner, and enterprise enthusiast who recently sold his retail & service business here in New York City. I’m also a fanatic for stories about micro-commerce, local history, organizational theory, philosophy, optimization, spirituality, and, entrepreneurialism.  I’m starting this podcast to get answers to questions that I haven’t encountered anywhere online or in the business blogosphere.

You don’t have to look very hard to find online content about business leaders from mid, large, and, multinational corporations. Yet, there’s  a dearth of coverage on the small business owner, the owner operator, the gig worker, the trade worker, and the hustler. There are insights to be had from all.

Fortunately, I happen to live in the greatest small business incubator the world has even known. For the last 200 years NYC has consistently had one of the most dynamic economies on the globe. There are over 200,000 businesses in this city, 98% of which are small businesses. They come in all shapes and sizes, and, are run by people from a diversity of backgrounds. To be clear, there are tons of obstacles to success here. But, the local economy is perennially fertile, incredibly diverse, and, rewards the industrious, the creative and the lucky.

This podcast will be a bridge to our fellow NYC business owners. My desire is to record and share thoughtful conversations with upstarts and leaders who spend their days in the trenches making things happen. I want to learn how their ventures operate from the inside out. I want to learn about their successes and failures. I want to learn what drives them to work day after day towards their goals, and do it all with an eye towards listeners like me, entrepreneurs. This is not intended to be a megaphone for the glossy world of boutique brands and tech innovation, though we may at times cover that. It’s also not a platform for enterprises to promote their products and services, though that may inadvertently happen. This is a place for conversation, an opportunity for business owners to share their accumulated wisdom and experience to an eager business-minded interviewer (& audience) who desires deeply to get a behind the scenes look and learn what it takes to make it (and sometimes fail) in The Big Apple.

I hope you find these interviews insightful, informative, thought provoking and fun.

Thanks for reading,

Alex
